The Nature and Portrait of National Education

As the Constitution 1945 says, that the education is a state responsibility, meaning that the constitution imposes responsibility of the intellectual life of the nation through its national education held by the government. Thus, that the government occupies a very important position, as well as making the education system, he also serves as a controlling system; for implementation in the field as well in line with national education goals.

Education, as well as to develop understanding in critical reasoning, cognitive power, is also has an effort to build nation's character and identity. Planting moral values and characteras, as stated in the Legislation of the Republic of Indonesia (No.20/2003); "National Education System should become the main foundation in designing, implementing and evaluating the national educational system". [3]

Muhammad Yaumi, in his paper titled "Pengembangan Pendidikan Budaya dan Karakter Bangsa Melalui Trandisiplinaritas", describes nicely about the need for implementation of the revitalization of national education, has analysed through an approach or the development and character formation. He wrote that the national education goals as set out in legislation, clearly has laid strong foundations to support the character and national identity. However, education has been experiencing an alarming degradation, where the values of local wisdom has been wrapped up by the strong currents of global education, cognitive and intellectual intelligence becomes a more dominant size for determining success in his education. As a result, depletion of moral, ethics and creative children in nation had been reduced by a values of narrow cognitive oriented. [4]

Education Implementation Criticism
Prof. Dr. Yahya Muhaimin in the event of the National Workshop "Character Development of Culture and National Education ", said: "Indonesia was known to has strong characters before independence's time, when achieving independence, and maintaining independence. Now, the character of Indonesian society are not strong as in the past, very fragile and low. Today's leaders also do not maintain the character and national developmen."(Kompas.com, 15/01/2010)

An impression that the material educations only contained for the touch and partial formal aspects. For example, ceremonies, rituals, laws, and symbols. Although, it should be recognised as an integral part of the universal values of religion. Meanwhile, the spirit such laws, faith, hope, and love, has not been so touched.

Education system in the West after the French Revolution in 1784, anchored and based on secularisation (seculerisme); worldly all problems of life and ideals of community, and based on the hedononism ethics; the implementation of the obligations which hinge on merely worldly objects. Clearly shows that civil society in the West descended on secularism and secularisation pattern in all the values of society life. [5]
